The Place Promised in Our Early Days (Kumo no Muko, Yakusoku no Basho)
A.K.A “Beyond the Clouds, The Promised Place”
One day that afternoon so many years ago, we made a promise that would never come to pass.
Beyond the border, so close and yet so far, there stands a tall tower.
A boy looks up at the tower, in his eyes, a mixture of fear and longing.
A girl-his classmate-is walking the same way home.
Another boy looks down at the road, in his eyes a yearning still too faint to be called love.
Their feelings locked securely away in their hearts, the two boys begin to build an airplane inside their secret base at the old abandoned train station.
Time passes…
Now grown, the man visits the place where he saw her again, and remembers…
He recalls days of clear blue skies, remembering feelings soon to be torn between her and the rest of the world.
Treasured memories he was not suppose to forget.
Two loves merge into one resolution, and the boys finally take to the skies in their plane…
